Wellbeing provision - independent clinician sessions available
As part of the enhanced wellbeing resource available for all those affected by the recent events surrounding the group chat, we have appointed an independent psychologist, Karen Mead, to provide individual sessions for those who would prefer to speak to a clinician not connected to the University.
The University has arranged an Immigration Briefing for staff and students affected by Brexit. The session will be led by Tijen Ahmed, an Associate at Shakespeare Martineau Solicitors and will take place on Thursday 7 February 2019 from 12.30-2.00pm in the IDL Auditorium, WMG.

Advice on avoiding financial scams
Some students have fallen victim to financial scams, so we wanted to share some advice to help you avoid this situation.
On 27 February Amjad Rihan, whistleblower on the global gold trade and the Founder of Global Business & Financial Integrity (GBFI), which campaigns for policy reform in combatting financial crime, will speak on the role of the gold trade in fuelling conflict and human rights atrocities.
On 23 January the contractors carrying out preliminary construction work to prepare for the HS2 train line held a drop-in session to share more information about the work taking place. Find out what was discussed and next steps.

Three PhD students from the School of Engineering represented the 91¸£Àû at the Future Engineer’s Leadership and Innovation Academy (FELIA) 2018, in Nanjing (China).
Pioneered by the University of Chicago, Data Science for Social Good trains aspiring data scientists to work on data mining, machine learning, big data and data science projects with social impact. This is the first time the initiative will have a UK base thanks to our collaboration with the Alan Turing Institute in London .

Book-a-desk: the story so far
Over 500 students have signed up to the book-a-desk trial and shared their experiences of booking a desk in the library and made suggestions to streamline the process.

The IT Services team is investigating a phishing attack targeting a number of staff and students at the University, and resetting passwords for accounts affected. Phishing emails are a hoax designed to get your personal details or money, and many look like legitimate messages from another member of the University or a personal contact. Find out how to avoid them. If you need a password reset over the Christmas period, please contact IT Services on 024 765 73737.
91¸£Àû students recognised as leaders in social mobility
Four of our students have been recognised as champions of social mobility at the inaugural Student Social Mobility Awards, hosted by Baroness Helena Kennedy in the House of Lords on December 13.
Students encouraged to co-present with academic staff our submit their own proposals.
The Impact on Campus Award is for the society that has gone above and beyond to support their members and the wider university to achieve success, in terms of careers, development of new skills and personal growth.

Climate Reality Campus Corp takeover Piazza Big Screen
Climate Reality Campus Corp are hosting a ‘24 hours of reality watch party’ on Tuesday 4th and Wednesday 5th December. Join them on the Piazza during the day to watch as Al Gore, a number of celebs and teams across the world bring you an update of how climate change is affecting their regions and what actions everyone can take to tackle this issue. The UK hour is at 7pm GMT and Climate Reality will be in Oculus OC0.01 from 6:30pm until 9pm to enjoy this in the warmth. If you are unable to make it to the Piazza you can watch it live at .
Wellbeing Support Services moving to Senate House
In response to your feedback, Wellbeing Support Services are moving to Senate House in January 2019. Moving to the heart of campus is just one feature of integrating our Wellbeing provision, along with introducing a new online system to make it easier for students to access the support they need. The system will be in place from the Spring Term and can be accessed via the Wellbeing Support Services website.
