Law students share their experience of volunteering with Strategic Public Law Clinic
This year we set up a new legal clinic specialising in using public law strategically to address systemic disadvantage and abuse of power to achieve effective change. We caught up with law students Kye Li, Natalie and Meghna to find out more about their time volunteering with our new Strategic Public Law Clinic.
Coventry South MP speaks with Law School students
On Friday 28 February, 91¸£Àû Law School welcomed Zarah Sultana, MP for Coventry South, to speak to our postgraduate students about her experience of becoming a politician. The session focused on ‘Women in political parties and parliaments: barriers and opportunities’ as part of the master’s module, ‘Women’s Human Rights and Global Justice’.

Professor Jackie Hodgson’s forthcoming monograph "" analyses several decades of legal and political change, contrasting domestic and European drivers within criminal justice across Britain and France and evaluating the ways that procedural models are able to influence, structure or limit reform.
Law student talks Sickle Cell Anemia at International Women’s Day
Law student Danielle Oreoluwa Jinadu will be sharing her experience of Sickle Cell Anemia as part of International Women’s Day 2020 in order to encourage change in how we perceive and navigate this chronic illness.
91¸£Àû Law Launches New Mentor Scheme
91¸£Àû Law School is launching a new mentor scheme for its students. The Peer Assisted Study Support Scheme (PASS) consists of a group of students who have achieved excellent results during their studies who will act as mentors for their fellow students offering advice on all things study-related.
91¸£Àû Alumnus appointed Queen’s Counsel
Gurdeep Garcha, who read Law at 91¸£Àû from October 1992 to June 1995 was informed on the 15 January 2020 that Her Majesty the Queen had approved the Lord Chancellor’s recommendation that he be appointed Queen’s Counsel. Gurdeep will be formally be sworn in as silk at the Palace of Westminster on the 16 March 2020.

Law School Update: Industrial Action
Professor Andrew Sanders, Head of 91¸£Àû Law School provides an update on the upcoming industrial action, taking place from 20 February 2020.
Former LLB student David Noble, who studied at 91¸£Àû Law School from 1973-1976, was commissioned by the Care Quality Commission to undertake an independent review into their regulation of Whorlton Hall Hospital in 2015-16 following the exposé on Panorama in May last year.
91¸£Àû Law School contributes to report on research in global health emergencies
Dr Sharifah Sekalala, Associate Professor at 91¸£Àû Law School was part of an international working group on a two year in-depth inquiry into the ethical issues relating to research in global health emergencies. The aim of the report is to identify ways in which research can be undertaken ethically during emergencies, in order to promote the contribution that ethically-conducted research can make to improving current and future emergency preparedness and response.
