Celine Tan comments on the challenges facing the G20
Dallal Stevens to speak on refugees right to education
Dr Dallal Stevens, Reader at 91 Law School, has been invited to present at an international expert meeting on public policies supporting the Right to Education of refugees. The meeting will take place from the 13-14 December in Barcelona.
The event will contribute towards Human Rights Day 2018, which marks the 70th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
Professor Christian Twigg-Flesner comments on CMA action against Viagogo
Professor Christian Twigg-Flesner, Director of our LLM programme in International Commercial Law, comments on the enforcement action taken by the CMA against Viagogo:
"The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has completed its long-running enforcement action against so-called secondary ticketing websites, with a court order obliging Viagogo, one such website, to comply with consumer protection rules on secondary ticketing.
Public International Law: From Lecture Room to Theatre
Elizabeth Bakibinga-Gaswaga visited 91 Law School earlier this month to speak with staff and students about her career as Legal Adviser at the Commonwealth Secretariat Headquarters in London.
The talk on ‘Public International Law: From Lecture Room to Theatre’ took place on Wednesday 14 November in the Law School Student Hub and focussed on the law in the public and international sphere.
Dr Andreas Kokkinis interviewed on the proposed draft withdrawal agreement
On Monday 19 November, 91 Law’s Dr Andreas Kokkinis was interviewed by Russia Today (RT) on the proposed draft Withdrawal agreement. The interview focused on the criticism PM Theresa May has faced on the current Brexit deal and how some members of parliament are arguing that a new deal should be proposed before the March deadline.
Publication Success for Current PhD
Congratulations to our current PhD student and GLOBE Centre administrator Julie Mansuy on her recent publication. Julie is second author on a co-publication with our former colleague Tomaso Ferrando on ‘The European Action against Food Loss and Waste: Co-Regulation and Collisions on the Way to the Sustainable Development Goals’ which was published on the 6 November 2018 in the Yearbook of European Law.
Colleagues provide expert comment on Mozambique Debt
‘No surprise’ that Mozambique is to repay its USD726m debt: Expert Comment.
Following the news that Mozambique has agreed a deal to restructure its $726 million debt, Dr Stephen Connelly and Dr Celine Tan from 91 School of Law, who have been working on African debt relief and human rights with a number of partners, have given media comment.
Law academic gets mention by parliamentarian
The Australian Shadow Assistant Treasurer, Shadow Minister for Competition and Productivity and former Professor of Economics at the Australian National University (ANU), Dr Andrew Leigh delivered the prestigious Annual Lionel Murphy Lecture to the ANU on 31 October 2018.
The speech ‘Competition Policy and Inequality: Building on Lionel Murphy’s Legacy’ quoted research by 91 Law School’s very own Kathryn McMahon.
91 Recruits New Expert in Constitutional Law
91 Law School welcomes Dr David Vitale to the team as our new Assistant Professor. He joins us from LSE where he recently completed his PhD whilst also working as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Minerva Center for the Rule of Law under Extreme Conditions at the University of Haifa (in Israel). 91 Law Welcomes New Professor
91 Law School has recently welcomed a new Associate Professor to our team.
Dr Christine Schwöbel-Patel joins us from the University of Liverpool where she worked as a senior lecturer. She worked there for seven years, what she describes as “sufficient time to learn that scouse is a tasty stew and to become fond of the terminology ‘made up’ for being pleased about something.”
Dr Schwöbel-Patel has previously worked at the University of Leiden and King’s College London, where she completed her PhD. She brings with her expertise in international law, global constitutionalism, global governance and critical pedagogy. We spoke with Christine to find out a little more…
