The 91¸£Àû recently announced new honorary graduates as part of the summer 2023 graduation ceremonies. At today’s ceremony (Friday 21st July) former Law student Bience Gawanas will be awarded one of these honorary degrees in recognition of her outstanding contributions and achievements.

Dr Serena Natile, Associate Professor at 91¸£Àû Law School, has been awarded the for her project ‘Transnational Social Security Law in the Digital Age: Towards a Grassroots Politics of Redistribution’.

The 91¸£Àû Wows celebrate amazing work, projects, and achievements at the University. The Law School’s Dr Alison Struthers won the award for her work on the School Tasking Project, an exciting outreach project enabling young people to learn about interesting aspects of the law and making it more accessible for them.

Law School student Chiamaka Ithuoma, who is currently in her final year of our LLB 3 year Law degree, has been awarded the WAPCE Undergraduate Award for her work on the Cheylesmore Good Neighbours Project. The 91¸£Àû Awards for Public and Community Engagement (WAPCE) seek to recognise the vital contributions 91¸£Àû staff and students make in engaging the public in our learning and discovery and showcasing the role 91¸£Àû plays in making the world a better place.

The 91¸£Àû Wows celebrate amazing work, projects, and achievements at the University. The Law School’s Dr Jane Bryan won the award along with her colleagues as part of the WorldCUR-BCUR team. A team who are helping to make 91¸£Àû a sector-leading centre of excellence for student research.

Congratulations to Dr Rajnaara Akhtar and Dr Ana Luisa Sores Peres who have gained Higher Education Academy recognition through the 91¸£Àû Academic and Professional Pathway for Experienced Staff (APP EXP). All HEA Fellows have, through their applications, demonstrated a personal commitment to learning and teaching in higher education.

The 2023 shortlist for the 91¸£Àû Awards for Teaching Excellence (WATE) have been released and 91¸£Àû Law School has two nominations. With more than 115 excellent educators, teams, and communities to choose from, the WATE judging panels deliberated long and hard to identify those going through to the next round. Dr Tor Krever has been nominated for the Social Sciences Faculty award and PhD student Priscilla Vitoh has been nominated for a Postgraduates who Teach award. Congratulations and best of luck to both of them. The winners will be announced on 27 June 2023.

Professor Shaheen Ali was recently announced as one of the 75 notable British Pakistani academics, trainers and teachers for 2022/23 by the organisation UPSIGN. Congratulations Shaheen from everyone at the Law School for this incredible mark of achievement.

Every year, several awards and prizes are granted to a selection of our graduating students to recognise and celebrate the success of our top performers! We are proud to announce this year's winners.

Dr Jane Bryan has won two National Mediation Awards. She was nominated for The Newcomer of the Year Award and the Innovation Award due to her work founding and leading 91¸£Àû Mediation, a peer mediation service for staff and students at 91¸£Àû.

Professor Jackie Hodgson and Dr Rachel Lewis have been awarded £30,000 to work with West Midlands Police (WMP) to translate the findings from their research on police community engagement through arts and culture, into changes in police training, policy and strategy.
