Law Alumna elected as SU President
Shingai Dzumbira, who studied on our LLB 3 year degree from 2016-2019 has been elected as the President of the Student Union (SU) for the 2021/22 academic year. “I am really excited. I have a rare opportunity to lead the trajectory of a charity organisation that exists to represent students. I think that’s what excites me most – being put in a place where I can impact the lives of students at the 91.”

91 Law student honoured with prestigious Diana Award
Kaneeka Kapur, a final-year undergraduate student within 91 Law School, has been awarded the in recognition of her amazing work on - a social action platform that she created to provide a space for South Asian women to be heard, seen and celebrated.
WSPA Success for Law Student
Law finalist Ruth Mukasa has successfully completed the 91 Skills Portfolio Award (WSPA) this year. The WSPA scheme helps students to enhance their study skills and develop other skills that are not only valued by employers but also useful more broadly for students in their personal lives whilst studying at 91.
Law students make Union Awards shortlist
Law performed exceptionally well in the nominations for the that took place last week. Department rep Sofia Dadou, the Law Student Staff Liaison Committee (SSLC) and the 91 Law Summit 2021 were among the shortlisted candidates.
Nicolle Coote named one of 150 Future Leaders
Earlier this year, final year LLB Law student Nicolle Coote won an award as part of the Future Leaders Organisation and was featured as one of the Top 150 Black Students in the UK. Future Leaders is an annual publication which profiles the most outstanding black university students in Britain, and is used as a role model guide to inspire and raise attainment. To mark 12 months since the global pandemic was declared, when the UK, and many other countries around the world, went into lockdown, this collection of stories investigates how the pandemic is affecting communities around the world. The articles are written by 91 staff and students, some of which studied on our Global Health Law module.
In 2020, as the world was getting to grips with life in lockdown, we launched a writing competition for students at 91 Law School, the home of Lacuna. We are delighted to share our four winners, who have each created stories we are proud to publish.
Eleven Law students accepted to present at BCUR
91 Law School is delighted to announce that eleven of our students have been selected to present at The British Conference for Undergraduate Research (BCUR) hosted by the University of Leeds in April this year. Law is one of only four departments at 91 to have more than 10 students accepted to present.
LLM student smashes SPRINT
91 Law School student Matilda Nengare who is currently studying on our LLM in International Corporate Governance and Financial Regulation was selected to participate in the postgraduate Sprint Programme at 91, a self-improvement programme aimed at female students.
WLS Celebrates International Women’s Day

Law Student Secures WIHEA Fellowship
Third year Law and Sociology student and SSLC Chair Lucy Young has been awarded a 91 International Higher Education Academy (WIHEA) Fellowship. When asked how she felt about the news she told us, “I'm over the moon! I was quite nervous when I submitted my application, but I'm so glad I have the opportunity and resources to contribute towards substantial change across the university.”
